Data Scientist

About the role

Wave Mobile Money is building financial services to help Africa become the first cashless continent. This role owns data science work across the business, including credit scoring, fraud detection, optimization, and A/B testing to improve outcomes.

What you'll do

• Embed with product and operations teams to understand problems and opportunities.
• Generate insights from customer, merchant, and internal data using statistics, visualization, and machine learning.
• Design and analyze optimizations for internal operations, promotions, and agent networks.
• Build data driven heuristics and models to improve user and business outcomes.
• Own the analytics process from scoping to communicating findings to stakeholders.

• Bachelor's in a quantitative field; Master's or PhD a plus; 5+ years in data science or related roles.
• Strong Python, SQL, and data visualization skills.
• Experience with machine learning, causal inference, statistical modeling, or A/B testing.
• Experience applying methods in operational settings and translating data into actionable insights.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; English fluency required; French a plus.
• Ability to work in fast moving environments and drive product decisions with data.
