Engineering is the largest remote hiring category on RemoteWork. Most of these roles are at venture-backed companies that already run distributed teams, which is what makes them realistic to land from Lagos, Nairobi or anywhere else outside the company's home market.
Each listing is screened for its hiring region first. A role that says "Remote (US)" or "Remote, EU only" is not a remote job for someone in Africa, so those are either removed or labeled before you spend an evening on a take-home.
Right now there are 47 live roles from 17 companies, 27 of them labeled Worldwide or Open from Nigeria.

Yes, and many do. The practical filter is the hiring region: roles marked Worldwide or naming EMEA, Africa or Nigeria are genuinely open. Companies usually pay through an employer-of-record or as a contractor arrangement.
Backend, full-stack and mobile roles at companies that already have engineers in several countries. Reading the company's research report on RemoteWork shows whether they hire in Africa and who to contact.
Every listing is read for its location requirements when it is collected. Roles restricted to regions that exclude Nigeria are removed; ambiguous ones stay but are labeled Check listing.
