Legal Counsel, Emergency Cash & U.S. Programs

About the role

GiveDirectly uses data, technology and partnerships to deliver cash to people in crisis. This role owns building and leading the legal model for Emergency Cash and the legal support for GiveDirectly’s U.S. programs, with a focus on rapid, scalable delivery during emergencies.

What you'll do

• Lead the Emergency Cash legal model from strategy through delivery
• Coordinate with country teams, program counsel, and local advisors to own legal responses
• Draft and negotiate partnerships, technology, data sharing, and vendor agreements
• Develop response-readiness tools, templates, and decision frameworks
• Provide legal guidance during active emergency timelines and make clear recommendations
• Support the U.S. programs including program design, expansion, and operations

• Qualified lawyer with experience in humanitarian or emergency response contexts
• Experience building scalable legal models for rapid program delivery
• Strong negotiation and contract drafting skills for partnerships and technology
• Knowledge of data use, privacy, regulatory review and government engagement
• Ability to work across multiple jurisdictions and coordinate with global teams
• Comfort working in high-pressure environments and providing clear legal recommendations
