Sr Software Engineer, Platform

About the role

StreamNative is building the URSA engine to integrate Apache Pulsar and Apache Kafka for cloud-native streaming. This role owners the Kafka service on StreamNative Cloud, focusing on distributed systems, storage scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.

What you'll do

• Design, implement, and maintain core components of the streaming platform including Kafka-compatible APIs and storage systems.
• Tackle distributed systems questions around replication, fault tolerance, scalability, and networking.
• Debug and resolve production issues in large-scale distributed environments.
• Collaborate with customers and field teams to translate real-world streaming use cases into solutions.
• Contribute to open-source projects and improve developer experience of streaming platforms.

What they're looking for

• 5+ years building large-scale distributed systems, backend infrastructure, or cloud services.
• Strong understanding of Apache Kafka, Apache Pulsar, or other distributed messaging systems.
• Experience with Kafka internals, protocol, broker architecture, KRaft, tiered storage, log storage, and compaction.
• Experience building cloud-native streaming or storage systems and strong programming skills in Java or Scala.
• Ability to own projects from design through production deployment and strong debugging skills.
