Engineering Manager (Identity)

About the role

FairMoney is a credit-led mobile bank for emerging markets. It operates in Nigeria and India with a 75+ engineering team across Lagos, Bangalore, Paris, Türkiye, and remote locations. As Engineering Manager for Identity, you will lead a squad responsible for identity and KYC systems that support multiple markets, combining people leadership with hands-on technical work.

What you'll do

• Lead and develop the Identity engineering squad to foster ownership and collaboration.
• Provide technical leadership for identity, authentication, and KYC backend systems.
• Translate business and regulatory requirements with Product, Risk and Compliance into technical solutions.
• Design, develop, and deliver scalable, resilient distributed systems.
• Ensure high standards for architecture, code quality, testing, security, and reliability; mentor engineers.
• Manage performance, growth, hiring, and ongoing skills development; drive system monitoring and improvements.

• 7+ years of software engineering experience in a backend-focused environment.
• 2+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on backend development and distributed systems experience with scalable production systems.
• Deep understanding of software engineering principles, architecture, testing, CI/CD, and reliability.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management; experience working in cross-functional teams.
