Senior Welder

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks Nigeria nationals for the Senior Welder role at its Headquarters in Ibadan. The role owns welding and fabrication of farm machinery, irrigation equipment, and research facilities, along with maintenance and safety compliance.

What you'll do

• Weld and repair farm machinery and implements, including tractors and irrigation equipment.
• Fabricate metal structures for research facilities such as screen houses, greenhouses, irrigation frames, and fencing.
• Measure, cut, and prepare metal materials according to design specifications.
• Use MIG, TIG, stick, arc, and gas welding to deliver strong, precise welds.
• Carry out preventative maintenance on welded structures to ensure long term durability.
• Maintain safe working conditions and comply with health, safety and environmental standards.

What they're looking for

• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field; NABTEB Welding and Fabrication certificate is an advantage.
• 2-4 years of proven welding and fabrication experience in a structured workshop or farm setting.
• Training or certification in occupational health and safety (NEBOSH, OSHA, or Nigerian equivalent).
• Experience with MIG, TIG, stick and gas welding, and ability to read technical drawings.
• Experience with irrigation systems or research structures and familiarity with ERP/work order tracking systems.
• Strong attention to safety, supervisory potential, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
