About the role

What you'll do

• Carry out elective and emergency surgical operations based on needs and availability of supplies.
• Lead daily ward rounds and monitor inpatient treatment and recovery, including discharge orders.
• Organize and deliver trainings and refresher trainings for local health staff according to the work plan.
• Provide continuous capacity building, supervision and CME-aligned care to ensure quality of care per MOH guidelines.
• Coordinate with Hospital Management and the Emergency Programme Manager on essential medicines, medical consumables and equipment; represent Amref in meetings when asked.

• Postgraduate Certification or Completion of Specialty Training in General Surgery or equivalent
• At least 2 years of work experience as General Surgeon in a similar high-volume hospital
• Ability to perform elective and emergency surgical operations and supervise clinical care
• Experience organizing trainings and capacity building for local health staff
• Strong coordination and communication skills to work with hospital leadership and program managers
