About the role

Amref Health Africa supports anaesthetic services at Kuajok State Hospital in Warrap State, South Sudan. The Anesthetist will ensure patient care in the Operating Theatre and Critical Care Units, mentor junior anaesthetists and allied staff, and collaborate with the surgical team and hospital leadership to improve service quality.

What you'll do

• Oversee and manage all anaesthetic drugs and equipment used in the theatre, maternity and other relevant departments.
• Conduct preoperative assessments, inform patients of proposed anaesthesia procedures and risks, and obtain consent.
• Manage the anaesthesia and resuscitation component of theatre services and assist in post-operative follow-up.
• Perform minor procedures such as surgical toilet, incision and drainage of abscesses, and primary suturing of wounds.
• Provide on-the-job and theoretical training to surgical nurses and midwives on emergency services and related health issues.
• Assist the hospital matron in drug management and consumption supervision, including timely reporting, and support hospital managerial tasks as required.

What they're looking for

• Diploma (3-year) in Anaesthesia from a recognized higher institution.
• At least 2 years of work experience as anaesthetist in a busy hospital.
• Experience overseeing anaesthetic drugs and equipment and conducting preoperative assessments.
• Ability to inform patients of proposed anaesthesia procedures, risks, and obtain consent.
• Experience training or mentoring junior staff and allied health workers.
• Willingness to support program and hospital management tasks, including reporting.
