Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Wikimedia Enterprise

About the role

Join the Wikimedia Foundation as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for Wikimedia Enterprise. You will design, develop, and maintain reliable, scalable infrastructure for API services and own SLOs for critical APIs. You will participate in incident response and be on-call as part of a global SRE team.

What you'll do

• Define, track, and improve SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets for reliability targets.
• Build observability systems for metrics, logs, and tracing to enable quicker troubleshooting.
• Drive capacity planning, load testing, and resilience validation including chaos testing.
• Improve developer experience with self-service infrastructure and streamlined deployments.
• Design and optimize CI/CD and GitOps workflows with GitLab and ArgoCD, including canary deployments.
• Enforce secure-by-default practices such as IAM, secrets handling, and encryption.

• Automation and configuration management with IaC tools like Terraform and Ansible, plus Python or Go.
• Cloud experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP focusing on scalability and cost efficiency.
• CI/CD and GitOps experience with GitLab, ArgoCD, and progressive delivery.
• Incident management experience including on-call duties and postmortems.
• Strong SRE and observability background with SLOs, SLIs, metrics, logging, tracing (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
• Collaboration and communication in distributed teams; familiarity with open source is a plus.
