Data-AI Architect

About the role

dLocal is the financial infrastructure powering global commerce in the world’s fastest-growing markets. The Data-AI Architect will provide the technical direction for dLocal’s data and analytics architecture from Montevideo, shaping a scalable, governed data ecosystem across Data AI and engineering. You will act as a senior technical reference for architecture decisions, translating business needs into pragmatic designs.

What you'll do

• Define and evolve enterprise data architectures across batch, streaming, lakehouse, and warehouse use cases.
• Lead adoption of data-mesh principles including domain ownership, data as a product, and self-serve platform capabilities.
• Design and govern streaming architectures using Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Spark Structured Streaming, and Databricks.
• Establish reference architectures and engineering standards for data products, pipelines, ingestion, storage, processing, and security.
• Provide oversight on operational SLAs including latency, cost, quality, and production performance.
• Act as a technical mentor to data engineers, platform teams, data scientists, and engineering leaders.

• 8-10+ years of experience designing and operating scalable data architectures in enterprise or high-growth environments.
• Strong experience with data-mesh architectures, domain ownership, data products, governance, and self-serve platforms.
• Deep expertise in streaming and event-driven architectures with Kafka or Kinesis and engines such as Flink or Spark Structured Streaming.
• Proficiency in semantic layers, ontologies, canonical data models, metadata, lineage, and data governance.
• Experience with cloud data platforms, AWS and/or GCP, and technologies like Databricks, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, or Iceberg.
• Experience with MLOps or low-latency ML data systems and strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.
